The "goblet" or "wineglass" shaped encased is one of the more elusive encased cents known. I refer to them as goblet encased, although wine glass would also be correct. I recently asked my newsletter group if anyone had an encased goblet cent. My intent was to get a census of the know goblets and catalog them. Above is one know goblet encased. I did not create the images so if they are yours I'll be happy to give you credit or remove them as needed. The goblet shape is unique. I know of this one through the images and I know of one other. The obverse reads: "CHARLESTON / EXPOSITION/ SOUVENIRS / 1901 / 1902". At the very bottom the is some small type. I can read "& CO. Cin, O". Before that could be; "CFO.. JUNE"? but this is probably not right. Osborne was in Cicinnati but the letters I see don't work for them.

Here is an image of the other known goblet encased.

Obverse reads: "GOOD LUCK / KEEP ME / AND NEVER GO BROKE / 5 / GOOD FOR / IN TRADE" (Hover for larger image)
The reverse reads: A. BERKOWITZ / 243 / HIGH ST. / HAMILTON / O.

This piece differs from the first in the legend. The edge on the "1901 Charleston Expo" is raised on the reverse while it is raised on the obverse of the "Berkowitz" piece. The font used appears to be the same as well. There isn't a makers mark or anything to indicate who produced this piece, while the "Expo" pieces clearly has one. I verture an educated guess that both were produced by the same company. This is especially due to the fact that Hamilton, Ohio is close to Cincinnati.

I'm looking for additional information on these particular pieces and on any other "goblet" style encased.

The encased below is missing the coin.
